Modeling/Setting up an Employer using the auto class builder

The Auto Class Builder in benefitbay is a game-changer for agents who want to streamline their quoting process. By following this guide, you’ll be able to generate accurate, professional quotes quickly and efficiently.

1. Once your company has been set up in the benefitbay platform and employees have been added, you will set up your ICHRA plan.  Click on "Define Contributions".

2. After clicking on "Define contributions", you will be at the page entitled, "ICHRA Models". Specifically, you will see the Default Model which is your starting point for modeling. All Employees are in one group and given the same ICHRA contribution.  Review the Default Model by clicking on the 3 dots. We recommend you keep the Default Model "as is" for comparison. To learn more about using different employee classifications to establish ICHRA contributions, click here

3. Create a New Model using employee classifications by clicking on +Add New Model.  Enter the name of your new model.  In the model below, we are establishing an Hourly and Salary classification for all employees, so we've named it "Hourly / Salary Model".  Next, click "Add Model".

4. Now, let’s make things even easier! Select "Auto-Class Builder for complex models" and click "Continue." This tool will do the heavy lifting for you—saving you time and effort.

5. Select the states that you would like to class out.

6. You can also create classes containing multiple states. For this example, we will proceed with each state classed individually.

7. Next, you'll have the option to separate classes by pay type, creating salary and hourly individual classes for each state.

8. You can create classes for part-time employees as well. In a standard model, part-time employees are not given an ICHRA contribution from their employer. If this is the case, you do not need to create additional classes, and you will proceed with the "not now" option.

9. Let's move on to age banding. Options are 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year age bands. Select the desired age band and enter the desired range, then click "continue".

10. Define dependent contributions. If the employer wished to provide a contribution for their employee's dependents (spouse and/or children), you will enter that information here. You can select a percentage of the employee's contribution or you can assign a dollar amount. Enter the appropriate information and click "continue to review classes".  This contribution will be applied to all classes being created.

If dependent contributions will only be applied to a few classes, leave this section blank and you can add that on the specific class level

11. In this step, you will review the classes you created! In this example, you can see that we created 3 state classes, we did not class out by pay type or create additional classes for part-time employees, we created 1 year age bands starting at 21, ending at 65 and our dependent contributions are set to zero. If this review page looks correct, click "create 3 classes".

12. Congratulations! You’ve successfully built a customized model for your employer group. Now, you can set contributions, analyze the numbers, and generate the ICHRA proposal with confidence.

Using the Auto-classing option allows you the ability to quickly build different models to show classing variations by state or pay-type or a combination.

Happy classing!
