Can I contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA) if I have an ICHRA?

Yes, but only if your health plan and your ICHRA are set up to preserve HSA eligibility.

To be eligible to contribute to an HSA, you must:

    • Be enrolled in an HSA-qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
    • Not have any other disqualifying health coverage. (For example, Medicare, a general-purpose FSA, or a spouse's health coverage or FSA that also covers you).

If contributing to an HSA is important to you, be sure to select an HSA-qualified plan and confirm that your ICHRA is HSA-compatible.

A note on employer contributions: Some employers may also contribute money directly to your HSA. To determine if an HSA-compatible plan makes sense for you, be sure to check with your employer to see what they offer.
