When selecting a health insurance plan, it’s important to confirm that your preferred doctors and facilities are in-network—to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs.
Here are several ways to verify a provider’s network status using benefitbay® and other tools:
1. Enter your medical providers on your benefitbay® Profile
You can enter your doctors and facilities directly into your benefitbay® profile:
-
Log into your benefitbay® portal
-
Go to the “Medical Providers” tab on the left
-
Click “Add another provider” to input their details (name, specialty, location)
During the plan shopping experience, benefitbay® will show whether each provider is in-network under the available plans:
-
✅ Green = Provider is in-network
-
❌ Red = Provider is out-of-network
⚠️ Important: While this tool is a great starting point, it may not always be 100% accurate. Always confirm using the steps below.
2. Call Your Provider’s Office
Contact your provider directly to verify they accept the specific plan you are considering.
-
Ask to speak with the billing department
-
Have the exact plan name handy (found in benefitbay®)
-
Confirm both the carrier and the plan name — providers often accept some plans from a carrier but not others
3. Use the Carrier's Website
Most insurance carriers have an online provider directory.
To find it:
-
Google:
"Carrier Name" + "In-Network Provider Search"
-
Use the directory to enter:
-
Your ZIP code
-
Plan name (from benefitbay®)
-
Provider’s name, address, or specialty
-
These directories are typically reliable and updated frequently
4. Call the Insurance Carrier
You can contact the insurance carrier directly to verify if a provider is in-network.
-
Call the customer service number listed on the carrier’s website
-
Let them know you are shopping for individual coverage, NOT a current member
-
Provide:
-
The plan name
-
Your provider’s full name and location
-
⚠️ Important Reminder
Provider networks can change at any time. Always re-verify your doctor’s network status:
-
During Open Enrollment
-
If you change plans
-
Before making important appointments
Checking multiple sources—benefitbay®, your provider, and the insurance carrier—will give you the best assurance that your doctor is covered under your new health plan.
